What is Students Beyond War?
Students Beyond War (or SBW) is a pan-high school organization based in the Des Moines area. The organization was started by a group of dedicated student activists who wanted to share the vision of peace with other students. This group provides a medium of action and a gathering place where all ideas are welcome. SBW is actively engaged in the community by hosting speakers, participating in vigils and demonstrations, and organizing their own means of action to vocally oppose the war in an entirely peaceful manner.
SBW has no religious affiliation, although they organize with groups such as the American Friends Service Committee, and the Catholic Worker Movement.
SBW welcomes peoples of all race, gender, age, and sexual orientation. We strongly encourage you to join in this exciting means of social action.
The following is a list of some of the activities we have organized:
+ Sit-in of Senator Grassley’s office
+ Sit-in at Congressmen Boswell’s office
+ Die-in at Nolan Plaza
+ Conference calls with the senator
+ Speakers such AsIsmael Hossein-Zadeh, and Roger Calero.
